If you’re “hip with the internet,” you’ve likely heard of the Roman Empire challenge where women are asking men, generally their partners, how often they think about the Roman Empire. Then, said women, are SHOCKED by the answers, ranging from once a day to once a week, and so on. The concept, I suppose, is meant to highlight how little women think about history. JUST KIDDING! But, it is an interesting question, I suppose. I think there are 100000 Roman Empires (in this vein) — some shared between people that people think of often, others that are only thought of by a single person, but often.
My “Roman Empire” is a lot of things, but the amount that I think about various casual acquaintances has to be up there. Did we have a conversation in a grocery store once, fifteen years ago, about how you were grieving your wife? Don’t worry, I think of you often and hope you’re okay. Did we take an Uber together to the Beyonce concert in Philadelphia? Yep, you’re on my mind. Then, if you’re someone who was more than a casual acquaintance, but we’ve fallen out of touch – you can be assured that you’re probably on my mind daily. Some of my friends tease me because I have no problems engaging with people with whom I haven’t spoken in years. To that, I say phooey. Let’s keep the dialogue alive. Decades ago, people wrote letters to one another and it was not shocking to have years go by without a letter from someone. I deploy the same concept in the digital age. Everyone wants to know that someone is thinking about them, I suppose; manifesting positivity towards others and wishing them well are two things I would argue that everyone needs more of. Anyway, I don’t know if that’s normal or not, but it’s me. π
Alright, my time is up for today. I’ve got two little ladies who have come to visit me and tell me about their dreams.
May today be prosperous, successful, and full of happiness for all of you. β€
I am terrible at keeping up with people. I am in awe of you who are able to maintain communication.
