Time Changes

The time changes have been, for the most part, not too bad for us as a family. That is what you would have heard me say last week, prior to “falling back” in the year of 2023. This post is coming to you from 4:30 AM as I ignore the crazy noises coming from within my children’s bedrooms.

Our lives have changed in the past several months – in various different ways. Justin is no longer working at the same place I am and as of the time being, does not have anything full-time. He is coaching more, but since his flexibility is at an all-time high, the timing of his coaching is slightly unpredictable. Yesterday and today, for instance, he leaves around 4:30 AM for his first two classes of the day. Yesterday and today, have also coincided with our children waking up before 5:00 AM. They keep me on my toes and keep my patience being tested on a daily basis. In order to attempt to get the older two to sleep through the night again, I moved the girls in together and the boys in together. I knew it had the potential to be an epic failure at the onset, but had high hopes for it – plus as my littles are very large – it would have the added ease component of combining closets since they can share a lot of clothes now. It’s definitely not better, but not not necessarily worse, either. Except for the time change. Prior to the time change, the big kids were waking up first, then the little kids would wake up a little later. Now, the little kids start babbling and laughing which wakes up the big kids, then it’s all over. Then, if 2/4 are up, they want to get up the others, so our mornings have begun much earlier recently. I am hopeful in about a week, the time change will sort itself out and for now, I’ll take advantage of the early mornings and the additional time to drink coffee.

Isabelle is still doing gymnastics, but Carter decided to stop. He starts basketball tonight. I’m interested to see how it goes as it will be the first thing that one of them has begun alone. Isabelle wants to go cheer him on, so hopefully that will add a bit of confidence, but he’s definitely the “shyer” one at this phase, especially for new activities. Halloween was a blast, though ended very early still. The kids reminded me of myself, in college. They pre-gamed heavily and could not make it all night. Fun was had, candy was procured, and we made it until nightfall, so I’ll call it a win. Especially with the bitter temps, no reason to be outside longer than necessary.

I’ll leave you with one final anecdote, then some pictures. Isabelle and I went up to a nursery (garden place, not baby) to get some pumpkins the weekend before Halloween. It’s a really cool place with tons of interesting things, decor, and two cats! She got to play with the two cats and really enjoyed it. However, the highlight was when she saw “the most beautiful Christmas ornament in the world” and wanted to purchase it. Ornament pictured below.
