I have a note in my phone in which I put titles and ideas for blog postings I want to write. It’s one of those examples where I trust my brain to remember the very tiny bread crumbs I’ve left for it. Sometimes, it’s obvious – but in the case of the title I wrote down for this blog, I can’t tell you if I just wanted to shame people who don’t like soup, or if there was something greater.
Without spending too much time on the title – soup is the greatest and I don’t understand people who don’t care for it. Fine, maybe you don’t want it in the summer, but who doesn’t love a bowl of warmness in the winter. You can make it taste like anything, but it’s hot and cozy and can help heat up those icy hearts out there.
My absolute favorite in recent years has been this Olive Garden dupe, Zuppa Toscana:https://natashaskitchen.com/zuppa-toscana-recipe-video/ It is so comforting and delicious. When I’ve done Whole30, I’ve even made Whole30 compliant versions and it turns out great, every time. Recently, I’ve been on a quest to make more things in our house, so I usually have some homemade bone broth lying around – that has been helpful in making many a chicken/turkey noodle soup over the 2023 holiday season. Best tip there? Reames noodles. (nope, haven’t made noodles yet) Don’t screw around with the shelf-stable egg noodles and treat yourself to a decadent, yet easy, homemade noodle taste.
We made it through the holidays and had a really great time, overall. Our traveling excursions across the state went better than expected and we were thankful to be able to celebrate with most of our family. Currently, I’m practicing my new morning routine which involves delaying coffee (caffeine) in order for the Adenosine in my brain to wear off – I started it yesterday and I would say 10/10, I recommend. You can think of Adenosine as the sleep chemical in your brain – we wake up with a lot of it. If we wait to have any stimulants until 45 minutes after wake, you can let the adenosine wear off. Otherwise, the caffeine is an adenosine blocker, so the adenosine will not be able to wear off once you start drinking caffeine. It’s the science that leads to our bodies want for another cup…. and then another….until at 2:00 PM you’re still tired because the adenosine has not yet burned off. Think of it as brain fog in the morning that can persist all day with the right conditions. So, I’m having a cup of water, writing here in the glow of my computer while I listen to the sounds coming forth from my children’s rooms.
I’ll circle back to the title as any proper conclusion by a writer taught in the 90s would do. Not a soup person? I would contest you haven’t found the right soup. Either that or you’re too scared of what a good soul warming would do for you.
LOVE soup!! Rarely homemade at my house, though. Adenosine…..very interesting. Gonna try but not sure I can make it 45 min. Lol
